Interests: Writing

This blog will focus on my interest in writing and how it started and continues to be something i'm passionate about.

My interest in writing grew out of my love for music. The first time I became invested in writing was when I turned 14 and I began to listen to rap. The rhythm and poetry of rap are the elements that really brought this music to life. The imagery and metaphors these artists used help create fascinating stories and narratives all through the use of the spoken word. While I also fell in love with the instrumentation, what really drew me into the rap scene was the writing and thought-provoking messages.

The first artists that generated my interest in this medium were Eminem, Logic, Tupac, and Joey Bada$$. All of these artists spoke of their struggles and shaped their views of their world through words. These artists and the many other artists that soon joined my catalog would be a huge influence on my writing journey.

The poetry of rap showed me the power words had when used correctly. The use of metaphors and similes, the ability to create transitions within rhyme schemes, and the ability to express myself through the spoken word gave my writing strength. For 4 years I wrote these raps and poems to express myself, push my creative drive and learn a lot about the process of writing a well-structured narrative. During those four years, I wrote in two notebooks and filled the pages with ideas, rhymes, and stories through the use of rap.

To this day I still write these poems and rhymes but I have begun to catalog them on my phone instead. Both Poetry and rap improved my writing ability and helped me find a creative outlet to express myself. My love for rap transformed into a love for writing, self-expression, and creativity.
